Mike grew up in the livestock and auction business. At the age of 19, he was Assistant Manager of a family run livestock auction. In addition to overseeing consignments and organization of the weekly sales, he managed the daily hog buying station and did order buying of livestock for area farmers. In the early 80’s, Mike was area supervisor for National Farmers. He managed the daily operations and the personnel of five hog collection facilities in Eastern Iowa. In 1986, Mike became a commodity broker and marketing specialist. In 2000, he acquired his own branch office. He currently operates his own commodity brokerage office in Brookfield, Missouri (Roach Ag Marketing) at the Smith Auctioneers Business Center. Mike has extensive managerial experience and has been instrumental in the development of Smith Auctioneers. He has conducted many auctions himself as well as auctioned with his brother Mark on all types of auctions for over 25 years. He is currently a member of the Missouri Professional Auctioneer and National Auctioneer Associations.
Mark Smith began his auction career at the young age of 13 working the ring and taking bids at his father’s livestock auction. At the age of 17 he was a calling bids for cattle at the weekly auction. By age 21, Mark was the lead auctioneer at two weekly livestock auctions in the state of Iowa while attending Iowa State University. In 1978, he conducted his first household auction and thus was born Smith Auctioneers. After graduating from Iowa State with a bachelors degree in animal science in 1980, Mark continued his auction business while pursuing what has now become a 25 year career in ag finance and community banking. A 1978 graduate of the widely respected Reisch World Wide College of Auctioneering in Mason City, Iowa, Mark has conducted auctions in Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, and Montana during his over 30 year auction career. Mark has been an auctioneer of over 500 auctions for a wide range of merchandise including antiques, collectibles, purebred cattle, horses, household goods, and construction equipment. His expertise in farm equipment and farm real estate auctions is extensive, as is his experience in agricultural finance. President and CEO of First Missouri National Bank, Brookfield, Missouri since 1992, Mark is a past president of the Missouri Independent Bankers Association and is a member of the Missouri Professional Auctioneer and National Auctioneer Associations. |
